There has been talk for weeks of the return to the top of the smartphone sector for Honor, a company born from an initiative of Huawei several years ago (now almost eight, it was 2013) and which in November 2020 passed under the control of Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology. This return has just happened with Honor Magic3 , a phone with valuable technical characteristics and with a design dominated by an element impossible to miss : a huge porthole on the back, which houses an excellent rear photographic compartment.

If it had not been sold, Honor would have had to deal with the same sanctions applied by the US to Huawei for an indefinite period, so it would not have been able to have commercial relations with American companies. Instead, in this way, Honor was able to request, among other things, the 5G chips from Qualcomm and the Android operating system with the related services and all the ” basic ” apps from Google, reaching absolute top of the range such as the Honor Magic3 , just They are, moreover, the first made by the new owner, which in this way has shown how it clearly cultivates the ambition of attracting Huawei’s orphaned customers, at least in Europe, with products with absolutely premium characteristics (and price).

The Technical Characteristics

Magic3 Pro and Pro + Magic3 all share the same display of 6.76 inches. An OLED with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, support for the DCI-P3 color space, HDR10 + certification and lateral curvature of 89 degrees, with an ” atypical ” resolution , higher than Full HD + but lower than Quad HD +: beyond the numbers, the definition is excellent and after all it is the only thing that really matters.

Slight differences in terms of chips, with Honor Magic3 that has to ” settle ” with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 while on the Honor Magic3 Pro and Pro + there is the Snapdragon 888+, an evolution of the first that improves processing capabilities in terms of AI, intelligence artificial . beyond differences that should be mild, all have the technology OS Turbo X – and is the first time you get on a Snapdragon chip – which manages the available resources according to priorities and should also slow down the degradation of performance over years.

In terms of RAM memory , Honor Magic3 and Magic3 Pro + have the same approach: a single option, 8 GB for the first, 12 GB for the second, while Magic3 Pro leaves the choice between the two levels to the customer. Fitting of storage space , 128 or 256 GB for the first, 256 or 512 GB for the second, only 512 GB for the third. Honor Magic3, Magic3 Pro and Pro + Magic3 all share the same battery from 4,600 mAh with fast wired charging 66 watts and rapid wireless up to 50 watts, and of course provide the user with the UI interface Magic 5.0 based on Android 11.

Honor Magic3, The Cameras

The differences between the three become much more important in terms of cameras, the theme that perhaps more than others causes the discrepancy between prices. On the rear of Honor Magic3 there are three sensors : the main 50 MP, a 13 MP ultra wide-angle and 120-degree field of view and a 64 MP monochrome.

There is an extra camera on the back of the Honor Magic3 Pro and Magic3 Pro + , namely a 64MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom (10x hybrid and 100x digital) with 90mm equivalent focal length and optical stabilization. On Magic3 Pro + the resolution of the ultra wide-angle camera reaches 64 MP.

Price and availability

We do not yet know when will arrive in Europe, but the company has already announced the list prices in euros:

• Honor Magic3 8 + 256 GB at 899 euros ;
• Honor Magic3 Pro 8 + 256 GB at 1,099 euros ;
• Honor Magic3 Pro + 12 + 512 GB at 1,499 euros .
